Ecommerce Keyword Performance and Trends in Natural Search
An in-depth analysis of brand, descriptive, and comparison keyword performance in various retail verticals, for different types of websites, and how it translates to SEO

The purpose of this study is to understand the impact of Ecommerce keywords within Google’s search engine results and their implications for a website’s SEO. The analysis spans 1,000 domains across top 20 rankings for 400 keywords, making it unprecedented in scope. Our findings contain unexpected insights across verticals including furniture, clothing, health and beauty, electronics, home appliances, and children.
The following questions will be answered:
- How does performance differ for brand, comparison, and descriptive keywords?
- What are the differences in rankings for three main groups of Ecommerce platforms – Price comparison sites, Specialty sites, and Marketplaces such as Amazon?
- What kinds of retail sites are impacted the most by poorly ranked keywords, or, who holds the most potential for improving their SEO?
The results of this analysis can help online retailers learn where their unrealized traffic potential and revenue growth may lie.
